Lux Luthor, The Sweet Chap and Nebraska
Parker Place, london
Wednesday 2nd March 2005

The first band to play was Lux Luthor and, having met the beforehand they seemed nice people. The first song that they played didn't seem to fit with the keyboard and pretty much all the keyboarding sounded like the guy was wobbly on his feet so to speak but as the set went on the playing got progressively better and better... The singing was really good and the bassist and drummer gelled properly with the style they were aiming for... though they seemed to lack a guitarist. Anyway, I spoke to the keyboard player, ben after the show and it turned out that it was the first time he'd played keyboard live! And that he'd only been playing keyboard for three weeks! I wouldn't have guessed that seeing as I'd put the playing down as just being nervous... which I'm sure he was... anyway this is a band that I can see being very successful... it was worth the trip and i do recommend them
I give it 4/5

this will soon be a picture of one of the bands
The Sweet Chap really blew us away, when they first got up on stage and I saw the guy with the guitar-like keyboard (I can't remember the name of the thing) and the singer with the acoustic guitar I mentally rolled my eyes and though to myself "oh god, not folk music" but the second they started playing I got caught up in the infectious rhythm of their songs. Superman 3 was their second song and I was entranced, I knew I'd heard the song before but for the life of me couldn't tell where and after the song they told us it'd been on channel 4. The rest of the set passed like a pleasant dream, with it's infectious tunes which i found myself humming on the tube on the way home. The singer/ guitarist seemed so at ease with the crowd that it almost didn't matter that there was a two foot gap between him and the audience. The backing vocal/ guitarist shone as he managed complicated moves on the guitar and still managed to sing the backing vocals, the bassist was inspiring as he switched between the keyboard and the bass guitar (least I think it was a bass guitar feel free to correct me) and the other guy was cool standing behind his little computer box inputting the right noise for each song... As my flatmate said, it was worth the money that we'd paid to get up there just to be able to experience this band... I think they will be on the radios soon as their songs are as catchy as the cold (but in a good way!)
For this i shall give them a 5/5

Nebraska... we only stayed for two songs, but they're very big in Southampton...
Their first song was reminiscent of The Libertines and their second was influenced heavily by Bauhaus and eighties music. They were good it's a shame I couldn't stay to the end, just I have no car yet and all the trains stop at midnight...
I feel I am unable to rate their whole performance but he two songs I heard would get a 2/5...

date unknown... the star guildford went to see the spill live set... oh god they rocked... can't remember many band names but one of the bands that REALLY caught my eye (and ears) was the modern!
if music were anything else, the modern would be the best at it... as it is i danced along to the music... sang with them to the catchy tunes and left at the end of the night wishing i could afford to follow them on future tours... i give them a 5/5 and can really see them getting far!

soon to be a picture of the venue
